brrly babbles about the power of moments (and other books)
ok wait quick side note this blog post is going to be about the book the power of moments but then ill also be talking about my other books but for later blog posts ill probably focus on only the power of moments if that's what u guys want
MY GOODIE GRACIOUS IM SO HAPPY I WENT TO THE LIBRARY TODAY YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH FREEDOM MEANS TO ME
whenever im able to go wherever i want and like walk to places especially libraries and home from school i just feel so HAPPY because not only am i able to be alone with nature and the wind and the beautiful sky even if its raining im also able to have freedom
like technically walking alone somewhere isn't really freedom related but it STILL IS LIKE AND IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY ESPECIALLY IF IM GOING TO LIBRARY AND TOMORROW IM GOING TO THE LIBRARY AFTER SCHOOL TOO and there's so many books there guys oh my gosh im so HAPPYYYY
if this day never happened i wouldn't have a new perspective on life too now i know what its like to starve a bit and have barely any food to eat and im glad i know how it feels because im trying to be a very open minded person so i can improve on myself and make other people feel happy
now that was such a great introduction because it all CONNECTS TO THE THING IM GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT!!!! THE POWER OF MOMENTS (by chip heath and dan health)!!!!! i am reading this book to help create memorable and happy moments for other people and also for myself!! so this is like a self improvement book idk what its actually called wait OH NO WAIT ITS LIKE A PSYCHOLOGICAL BOOK but like not what u think its like self improvement but self improvement is also technically psychology because you need to understand how the brain works and you need to understand human emotions to really improve on yourself first so YEAH PSYCHOLOGY WOOHOOOOOOOO
i also borrowed this other book called the as if principle by richard wiseman and let me tell you its gonna be SO GOOD BECAUSE OH MY GOSH its about like wait i cant describe it because i don't know how to put it in words so let me quote the summary thing on the cover page
"Victorian philosopher William James had a theory about emotion and behavior: It isn't that our feelings guide our actions (feel happy and you will laugh). On the contrary, it is our actions that guide our emotions (laugh and you will feel happy). This led James to a remarkable conclusion: 'If you want a quality, act as if you already have it'"
AND LET ME TELL YOU WHEN I READ THAT LAST SENTENCE I WAS SOOOO EXCITED TO READ THIS BOOK but i started on the moments one first because i already read a little bit of it when skimming through and i can tell its gonna be GREAT!!!!
and i also borrowed like 3 other books and keep in mind i only have 3 weeks to keep these books so im kind of screwed since all of these books are 300+ pages
also considering im going to be writing about the power fo moments a lot in my blogs and ALSO ABOUT THE AS IF PRINCIPLE because i love philosophy and psychology
let me add some info real quick. whats it called?? OH AN ALLUSION ok so you know how in movies the girl or whatever breaks up with her s/o and then shes like really sad and she calls her friends and then the friends are like "stop crying!! we're gonna go SHOPPING TO HELP YOU GET OVER THEM!! THEY WERE OUT OF UR LEAGUE ANYWAYS!!" ykwim?? now the reason why this works and why it helps the girl actually feel better and get over the s/o is because its like a celebration / memorable moment that marks the moment where she gets over the s/o (it'll connect all together to the book i promise)!!!
to furthermore explain, the breaking up is like the pit of the girl's life and its like really sad right?? but the hanging out with her friends part turns the pit into a PEAK moment, making it more memorable and since this break up is like her moving on into a different chapter of her life, turning into a new person, the peak moment of hanging out with her friends will actually help her move on because it just turned something negative (pit) into something positive (peak)!!!!
now let me use an example from the book because im really bad at explaining and that whole entire example probably didn't make sense without context from the book so here's an example!!
a widow (a woman whose s/o died) seeks help from this therapist to help her move on from her dead husband because she feels like shes ready to date again, but the thing is shes not ready to take off her ring, especially with all the memories she had with her husband and they got married and everything and they recited their wedding vows every day together while holding each other's hands and that's like really sad but anyways
so the therapist (or psychologist i don't remember) told her that she should arrange a sort of ceremony to let herself get over the husband!! so like everyone got together and the woman and the priest recited the wedding vows but this time in past tense and THIS IS A TRUE STORY BTW ITS NOT LIKE ITS REALLY WEIRD OR ANYTHING so anyways they recited the wedding vows in past tense to help it seem like shes moving on and then at the end the priest asked her to take off her ring and she did it with no hesitation
now why did this work?? i mean there's like a whole list thing that defines a peak moment or a memorable moment but im too lazy to type about that right now so ill write about it later when i feel like it
so in summary it worked because her pit moment became a peak moment and like by being surrounded by other people and having like a moment that marks the start of her new journey it helped her actually move on easier
now lets add another example (WITH STATISTICS THAT ACTUALLY PROVE THIS BECAUSE IM NOT MAKING THIS STUFF UP RIGHT NOW)
so in the book i think it was the principal or something but when it was a new and fresh start like for example a new semester, week, month, anything that's like a fresh start
so the principal or the school people IDK ill just say the school people so they would gather information to see if their hypothesis was right (their hypothesis was called the "fresh start" hypothesis and its about seeing if people really do cahgne when its like a new fresh start)
and what do u know?!??! their hypothesis was right!!! the amount of people who went to the college gym increased each new week by 33%, new month by 14%, and new semester by 44%.
as you can see by the data collected, people are more likely to change or do something new when its a fresh start!! which is why doing ceremonies or a celebration on your new life or moving on is so important!! not only does it mark a fresh start mark moment or whatever for u to look back on, but it also helps you move on easier without having to look back!
also you know new years resolutions right?? think of a new years party with lots of people to celebrate with!! when you make your resolution, you're probably more likely to actually complete it right?? ok look i actually made that up but think about it when was the last time u actually stuck to ur new years resolution?? for me the only time a new years resolution would stick to me is if there was a MOMENT that was involved in the process of that new years resolution, moment meaning something exciting meaning A PARTY
and let me tell u i barely have any new years parties and if i do theyre all boring which is why i most likely never complete my new years resolutions but whatever
but what im trying to say is moments are very important in the process of moving forward or moving background or feeling happy or feeling gratitude and bLHA BLHA BLHA ILL EXPLAIN MORE LATER
now lets talk about the other books i borrowed except i didn't read the other ones at all because i was busy reading the power of moments OK BUT LIKE HOW AM I ONLY ON PAGE 44 OF THIS BOOK? I GAVE UP MY HOMEWORK TIM ETO READ THIS BOOK ok but to be fair i did learn a lot in those 44 pages and it was also kind of interesting i mean i do like stories and fiction and nonfiction books but I've never read a self improvement or psychological/philosophical book so this is something new for me and its kind of hard but ITS FUN AND GUES WHAT?? this is a new change in the books im reading the moment that is helping me turn this pit (aka reading this new genre of books) into a peak (going to the library for the rest of the school week AND going to the library every Thursday WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
ok honestly what i just said made no sense so im just gonna continue on with my other books
let me list all the books i borrowed first
-how psychology works by this company named DK or something
- the power of moments by chip and dan heath
- biology for dummies
- catch 22 by joseph heller
- the as if principle by richard wiseman
i think im going to be reading the psychology, moments, and as if principle books first and ill like read at least 20 pages out of each every day ILL TRY AT LEASt that's like 60 pages every day and let me tell u im a really slow reader and i don't want to admit how many pages i read per minute because its really embarrasing
but the reason why i read slow is because i need to comprehend everything and im kind of slow at thinking but i think a lot so maybe i should meditate everyday from now on
you know i was going to meditate everyday but i forgot to meditate together so woohoo streak already BROKEN THERE WASNT EVEN A STREAK TO BEGIN WITH but its ok Kimberly you can meditate when you want
i cant wait to go to 7 11 tomorrow and get more of those buffalo chicken rollers they was so good holy crap and it also kind of filled me up
also if u guys want me to read one of the books i stated earlier (the books i borrowed) and make like a blog post on it because u think its interesting or something then i will!! and if u want me to make any other blog post or like learn something so i can explain it to u then i could always check out more books!!
how am i going to carry my books to the library tomorrow?? do i just bring 2?? i should've left them at the library but oh well
okay goodbye guys!!!!
