brrly babbles about romance books (i hope this doesn't find you)
introduction
hello guys and welcome to another brrly babbles blog post!!!!! today we will be talking about the best things to ever happen to me which are ROMANCE BOOKS!! usually when im reading i like to think that im becoming smarter and more educated like how i buy physics books to learn more about physics and whatever but my very guilty pleasure is romance books. like when you see someone reading you think "wow, their brain must be exploding out of their skull right now with all the growth that comes with reading such a book! so studious!" however when im reading a romance book i feel like im not learning anything and it makes me feel unproductive. its kinda embarrassing how i want to be productive all the time but im working on letting myself have breaks and not feel guilty about it because breaks make your brain work more efficiently so like im literally doing myself a favor. anyways since i felt guilty for reading romance books instead of reading something more educational, i researched the benefits of reading romance books and it made me really glad because there are good benefits to romance books! before i talk about those though im going to talk about this absolutely scrumptious book i bought a week ago and finished in 3 days. it would've been 1 if i didn't have other things to do i'm a fast reader i swear ACTUALLY i think i only read the book quickly because it wasn't hard to comprehend and whatever. i've been reading life of pi for english and im really slow at reading it and its hurting my ego so i try not to look at the book pages whenever i read so i dont discourage myself but whatever!
the book
the romance book is called "i hope this doesnt find you" and its about this girl named sadie whos an absolute academic weapon and has an academic rival (my favorite trope btw) and shes like super perfect and everyone loves her because she's a people pleaser and can't say no and whatever super awesome super nice well not towards her academic rival whose name is julius btw. so sadie has a lot of built up anger and stress and anxiety as expected because she's a super hard worker and highschool is stressful and also because of JULIUS who she competes with in absolutely everything. to get rid of these built up emotions she writes email drafts to the people that infuriate her and they get sent out somehow and BOOM everyone knows what she truly thinks of them well only some people because she didn't write hate emails to everyone or that'd be like super....weird but anyway her life is practically ruined and she wrote a lot of those hate email drafts to julius because you know he's her academic rival and then booyah
anyways this book was so freaking good it was so cute i squealed i giggled i read it during school it was just THAT GOOD oh my goooossshhhhhhhhh. AND THE GIRL IS IN TRACK TOO like guys she's literally me am i right. well actually she's valedictorian and has a love life and broke the school record for the 200m and i erm do not have a love life nor am i valedictorian nor have i broke the school record for anything in track. but that doesn't matter because i don't care. anyways julius memorized all the emails that she sent to him not because he has super good memory well he does but like he read through all of them multiple times and it's really cute and i don't want to spoil it any further it's so cute it's so FREAKING CUTE
i'm very glad i read this book because it motivated me to continue working hard in school. like recently i've been very unmotivated and i think it's a result of the weather or maybe i'm just burnt out i honestly have no idea but i've been feeling no motivation to do anything except the things that provide me with stimulation like playing video games or whatever i mean i barely play video games anymore like its kinda surprising but THATS NOT THE POINT im deviating from the topic sorry guys. this book just made me realize the importance of working hard because now sadie wen is my idol and who i strive to be in the future. maybe i won't break a track school record because i'm not the most physically gifted person on planet earth but i could maybe be valedictorian except i don't really care about that because i simply just want to learn about stuff i like not force myself to take hard classes that i don't want to for a gpa boost. but yeah sadie is just so awesome guys and like i can see myself in her maybe not achievement wise but personality wise WELL i don't really mind saying no to other people because i'm not a people pleaser and i have enough confidence to stand up for myself but we are similar in the whole overworking and ambitious aspect. there's also this song that i think very much describes me right now because it's just so #relatable. it's also in the book playlist that the author made for this book and i inferred that it related to sadie because in the book she forces her tears back because she doesn't like putting the stress of her emotions on other people and that is so real sadie. so real!
benefits of reading romance books
since i've talked about the book already i shall now talk about the super awesome benefits of reading romance books because they make me feel less guilty about not reading on physics or something! one benefit as demonstrated earlier is that you can see the characters as inspiration for self-improvement or just someone to look up to. like i know they're fictional but they can still act as a source of inspiration because it's like a dream version of yourself. the dream version of yourself that lives in a mansion and has a billion bucks in their bank account is also fictional so what's the difference. if you're judging me right now let's hope you don't fantasize about scenarios that'll never happen because you're a hypocrite if you do!
another benefit of reading romance books is that you're reading! reading of any genre is good because it requires your brain to work and therefore more neural activity occurs. this means that your cognitive processes are improved and BOOM you can analyze anything and everything and solve every single problem that walks your way and like reading is just super awesome no matter whether or not you're reading about a make-out scene or the life story of albert einstein. reading of any kind requires your brain to visualize the scene unless you have that one neurological disorder where you can't imagine things i forgot what it's called but i don't care enough to search it up so do it yourself. since you're making your brain do extra neural activity by visualizing whatever you're reading you're making your brain work more and booyah you're super smart!
another benefit of reading romance books is that is relieves stress. in my personal opinion this is very true like whenever i was stressed from school i just transported myself inside the book and it reminded me of emotions like happiness and whatever IDK just thinking about the cute little moments that happen in the book made me happy and made my brain produce serotonin. also i just searched up the difference between serotonin and dopamine because i've always wondered about it and i never got to searching it up until now and dopamine is involved with motor stuff like when your body wants to do something that requires physical movement, dopamine is produced to allow your brain to feel like you WANT to move. like if you're hungry dopamine will provide your brain with motivation to get up from the couch and grab a bag of chips. well i think that's how it works idk i skimmed through a reddit post. serotonin on the other hand is released as a result of a state of satisfaction which in short just means serotonin is involved with emotions and makes you feel happy. i mean both neurotransmitters make you feel happy but if you think about it, dopamine would make you happy for a shorter amount of time because if you need food and you get it then like your need for movement is done and boom dopamine is gone and you're sad again but serotonin is a result of something good happening to you so like. what im trying to say is that dopamine is temporary and needed for a short term goal that can be achieved and therefore you'll no longer need dopamine, and serotonin just happens when something good happens so you don't need it to achieve something, it just happens. well i don't know what im talking about anymore but yeah romance books make my brain produce serotonin because its cute and happy and reminds me that one day maybe i can experience that too. SIGH
ending
anyways i am too lazy to continue but i love romance books and will probably make more posts like this when i finish more romance books because BIG NEWS GUYS! I AM GETTING BACK INTO READING FOR FUN!!! i mean i've been meaning to get back into it and it's always been a very lowkey hobby of mine but i have decided that i will purposely devote my time to reading whether it be a romance book or not because i don't care anymore but yeah! there will be more book blog posts on here now because books are so awesome. thanks for reading my blog posts guys and goodnight!!! i am sleepy.
